Ride On Lawn Mower Parts

The most important thing when it comes to getting your own ride on mower is to make sure that it is a model that has good quality parts, and has spare parts easily available. I once made this error of getting a low quality tractor mower that had absolutely no possibility of changing any of the parts to anything else than the original parts made by the manufacturer. This became a problem since I would have wanted to replace the mower motor with a Briggs & Stratton small engine. That would have cut down the gas expenses and even left me with more power.

Some of the parts that are easily available for most of the models are found without any problems on almost all the ride on mower models that are available. A gas can is maybe the most basic thing that you can get. Remember that this is not the gas tank and a can is completely extra to be carried around. If you have a big lawn and don’t want to risk running out of gas while mowing you might want to have one of these attached to the side of the mower where accessible. Make sure that you don’t put it in a place where it will risk of getting in contact with any obstacles like trees. You will be a lot safer that way.

A lot of the basic models of ride on mowers don’t have any types of meters on them. That makes it impossible to make assumptions on how long can you use the mower without refueling and counting your average fuel consumption. Using a gas powered mower it is important to know how much it consumes to be sure that you are being ecological about your lawn mowing. Some kind of a hour meter or a mile meter is an important part in a mower and it can save you a lot of money.

While in storage your ride on mower needs to have some kind of cover to prevent it from rusting and the corroding effect of the wind and rain. If you are storing your mower inside a garage then in my opinion it is not necessary to get a ride on mower cover but most of the experts will tell you that without a proper cover the delicate parts of the mower will attract a lot of dust and the electronics might start having problems.

The oil pump is an important part of a ride on mower also since without it you can’t really do much. It keeps the oil moving inside the engine of the mower and enables it to function properly. Without a good pump the oil will stop moving and will eventually burn and do the same to your engine.

While checking for your tire pressures you should be also thinking about getting your own air compressor. The ride on mowers have such high tire pressures that it can be hard to pump it by hand, and to keep the mower moving and prevent the lawn from receiving too much damage from the tires it is a good idea to have the perfect tire pressures all the time. Just use the tire gauge to check the pressure.

The heart of the mower is the engine. While looking for good engines you might want to look at the Honda engines and the Briggs & Stratton mower engines. I don’t have any experience on other models but these have served me quite okay. I have had to have a few repairs for these brands also but nothing is perfect in my eyes.

The new ride on mower models have electric clutches and this in my opinion is something that has greatly improved the handling of the mowers. You now longer need to use a hand clutch or even a foot clutch to get the proper gears on.

Besides just having a good engine you need to have some high quality gator mulching blades that will keep on cutting through anything beneath your mower. These will go through any type of grass or even hay. Using these parts your ride on mower will be a powerful gardening tool.
